RESEARCH ACTIVITY BLOCK

Research on the definition of arts and crafts.

-Arts and crafts comprise a whole host of activities and hobbies that are related to making things with one's own hands and skill. These can be sub-divided into handicrafts or "traditional crafts" (doing things the old way) and the rest.

Define handicrafts.

-Handicraft, also known as craftwork or simply craft, is a type of work where useful and decorative devices are made completely by hand or using only simple tools.

Describe each type of arts and crafts.

  • Pottery-are objects that are made by molding or shaping moist clay and hardening it by heating in a kiln
  • Textile and Fiber Crafts-is a craft using fabrics or fibers to make decorative fabric products.
  • Paper Crafts-using paper as a medium of material to create crafts.

  • Woodwork-is a craft using wood as a medium material to form different products.

  • Jewelry-is a craft using different materials (like metals, and beads) to make jewelries.

  • Stained Glass-In stained-glass work, pieces of colored glass are held in place with strips of lead to form such things as window ornaments, lampshades, jewelry, and containers.

  • Others-includes: acrylics and other plastics, bread dough sculpting, knitting and crocheting, making cloth toys and dolls, flower crafts, shell crafts, candlemaking, decorative inlay and marquetry work with wood, stenciling, and making miniatures.

  • Leather Crafts-useful objects that are fashioned from leather, using cutting, shaping, and joining techniques.
